About Pitchin' for Wishes

Join Andrew Roby and Harris Teeter for the 10th annual Pitchin’ for Wishes Cornhole Tournament benefitting Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina.  Bags will fly Saturday, September 16th at Freedom Park.

Since 2008, the Roby Family of Companies has been building a better community through the success of this tournament, a two time Guinness World Record setting event.  Over the last 9 years, thanks to generous sponsors, donors and players, the event has raised over $1,200,000 for Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina and other local charities.  And we have no plans to slow down!  We’re on a mission to raise another $200,000 in 2017 alone!

All money raised will go directly to Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions in our local community.  If we hit our $200,000 fundraising goal, they will be able to grant the wishes of 34 deserving kids right here in our local community.

The tournament features an NCAA bracket style cornhole competition, as well as food, drinks, music, appearances by local mascots, kids’ activities and more.  In 2016, over 140 teams competed in the tournament as hundreds of spectators cheered them on.

Sponsor, donate or play in this year’s event and help make wishes come true!

Don’t play cornhole?  That’s OK!  Show your support by just showing up.  Pitchin’ for Wishes is a family friendly event that is FREE to the general public.  Everyone is welcome!

About Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina

Mission

Make-A-Wish® is the largest wish granting organization in the world, and grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich their lives with hope, strength and joy at a time when they need it most.

Total Patient Outcome

A wish come true is more than just a nice thing.  For most children and their families, it’s a vital antidote against the illness they are battling.  A wish come true helps children feel stronger, more energetic, more willing and able to battle their life-threatening medical conditions.

97% of wish families and 96% of health professionals observe increases in the wish kid’s emotional health.

89% of nurses, doctors, social workers and child life specialists combined believe that the wish experience can influence the wish kid’s physical health.

74% of parents saw the wish experience as a positive turning point in their child’s battle against their illness.

Local Reach & Scope

Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina serves the 51 counties from Burlington west.  The chapter has granted more than 4,000 wishes since its inception in 1985, and has never turned down an eligible wish.

Between September 1, 2015 and August 31, 2016, they granted a record setting 296 wishes.   They are granting more wishes this year than ever before, and at the average cost of $6,000 per wish, they need our help to make each one a reality.

Who is Eligible

A child with a life-threatening medical condition who has reached the age of 2½ and is younger than 18 at the time of referral is potentially eligible for a wish.

Who Can Refer a Child

Anyone can initiate the referral process.  Visit nc.wish.org/refer-a-child to get started.

What a Child Can Wish For

The child’s imagination is always the driving force in determining, designing, and coordinating the wish experience.  Most wish requests fall in to five major categories (I wish to GO, I wish to HAVE, I wish to BE, I wish to MEET and I wish to GIVE), but every wish is unique and powerful.
